Lactation Links for Breatsfeeding Help

An IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) is the gold standard for breastfeeding help.  To find a Lactation Consultant near you, click here.  You will be redirected to the ILCA website. ILCA is the professional orgaination for Lactation Consultants and they publish a directory of lactation consultants by zip code.  IBCLCs work in hospitals, clinics, doctor's offices, private independent practices, and some will even come to your house.  You can expect to pay for their services, but many insurances will reimburse you for this.  Call your insurance company to find out what is covered.
Free breastfeeding help may be available in your area, provided by trained volunteers. Many women feel strongly about helping other women breastfeed and volunteer their time.  Breastfeeding USA and La Leche League are both well respected national and international organizations that provide breastfeeding information and support.   Both of these groups provide mother-to-mother support by way of group meetings and/or individual helping.  There is usually no charge for their services, but you are welcome to join their groups or make a donation if you find them helpful. And it is a great way to meet other mothers!
